SBS MTV는 ‘월드 스테이지: 빅뱅’을 5월 4일(금) 밤 11시 30분에 첫 방송하고, MTV 네트워크를 통해 전 세계 동시간대 방송을 함으로써 160개국 6억여 가구의 MTV 시청자들을 사로잡을 예정이다.
지난 3월 올림픽 체조 경기장에서 개최되었던 빅뱅 얼라이브(ALIVE) 투어의 '배드 보이(BAD BOY)'와 '판타스틱 베이비(FANTASTIC BABY)', '블루(BLUE)'등의 무대들을 담은 총 세 편의 라이브 공연물을 편집해 MTV 월드스테이지 에디션으로 선보인다.
이번 방송은 빅뱅이 한국 및 아시아 가수로서는 최초로 MTV <월드 스테이지>의 한 회 전체를 커버하는 ‘월드 스테이지 헤드라이너’ 로서, 레이디 가가, 레드핫칠리페퍼스, 콜드플레이, 케이티 페리등의 세계 최정상급 아티스트들과 어깨를 나란히 한다는 점에서 매우 의미가 깊다.
또한 한국에서 제작한 공연물이 MTV 네트워크를 통해 전세계로 방송되는 것도 방송사상 처음 있는 일이다.
빅뱅은 지난 2006년 데뷔 이래 전세계에 팬덤을 구축해왔으며 MTV 비디오 뮤직 어워즈 재팬에서 두번의 수상을 비롯하여 지난해 MTV 유럽 뮤직 어워드에서 베스트 월드와이드 액트 부문 1위를 수상한 바 있다. SBS MTV 채널 총괄책임을 맡고 있는 김상배 실장은 "SBS MTV가 이번 ‘월드 스테이지: 빅뱅’의 방송을 계기로 앞으로도 K-POP을 전세계 팬들에게 알리는 교두보 역할을 수행할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
세계적으로 가장 각광받고 있는 뮤지션들의 열정적인 라이브 공연을 들을 수 있는 월드스테이지는 “TV로 즐기는 글로벌 뮤직 라이브”라는 컨셉을 기본으로 초대형 글로벌 아티스트들의 라이브 콘서트만을 기획, 방영하는 프로그램이다.
글로벌 뮤지션들의 대형 콘서트, 세계적인 뮤직 페스티벌 등 굵직한 명성의 무대를 라이브로 녹화, 방영해오며 전 세계 6억여 가구에 이르는 시청자들에게 다양한 음악 장르의 글로벌 아티스트들의 무대를 소개하고 있다.
